To South Wales & Mon Ladies Bowling Association.
The first bowling Club in South Wales was Beechwood Bowling Club, formed by Mrs Hetty Spicer in 1921.
She was a founder member of South Wales & Mon. L.B.A. The WWBA was formed from 6 different clubs in 1927, and the first County President for South Wales & Mon. L.B.A. was
Mrs. R Pugh in 1932. When it was formed South Wales and Mon.L.B.A. had 30 + clubs, until Glamorgan and Mid Wales formed their own separate Counties. South Wales & Mon L.B.A. is now a governing body of 21 clubs, and County Competitions are held throughout the County which are open to all affiliated members.
The Clubs are: Abergavenny, Beechwood, Blackwood,Caerleon, Caldicot, Chepstow, Croesyceiliog, Garndiffaith, Islwyn Ladies, Islwyn Park, Machen, Newbridge, NAC, Penyrheol, Pontymister, Pontyfelin, Panteg House, St. Julians, Tridwr, Ystrad Mynach, Ynysddu.
As a County we compete in the WWBA County Championship for the 'The Savegar Cup'.
As you are aware our 2020 outdoor bowling season has been cancelled due to the seriousness of the Coronavirus outbreak.
I would like to take this opportunity, as your President, to say that as much as we love our bowls, it is imperative that we look after ourselves and friends and family.
We have never known anything like this in our lifetime and I am aware that our close knit bowls community is fragile.
With SW and Mon County and clubs unable to plan or arrange anything for the foreseeable future, I would urge you to stay in touch with each other by telephone, email or letter. It is lovely to receive post that’s unexpected - and not a bill!
Hopefully my Presidency will carry over to next year and I hope then we will all be able to get together and enjoy our sport and social activities.
For now, please heed the government advice and stay safe.
Should anyone want a chat, don’t hesitate to give me a call. I won’t be going far 😏.
